This is a research paper I wrote in HIST 345: Engendering Modern East Asia. The paper focuses on American women's missionary work in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in China. It explores scholar’s analyses on missionary women’s perceptions of Chinese women and Chinese societal practices, missionary women’s self perceptions, and Chinese society’s perceptions on the foreign missionary women and mission work.
